Cleaning puhala


What is Lauhala?
Lauhala is the Hawaiian term for “Pandanus Leaf.”  “Lau” means leaf and “Hala” is the Hawaiian name for the Pandanus Tree.  There are many variations of Pandanus that range in colors, lengths of leaf, and size (or lack) of thorns.

Are you located in Hawaii? Yes. We are located in Honaunau, South Kona, on the island of Hawaii a.k.a. "The Big Island." While most of the custom framing materials are shipped in to Hawaii, all solid Koa and Mango hardwood moulding are harvested and processed in Hawaii. The frame moulding is then hand picked, sanded, and finished with great care by Cherie.  Unless specified, all lauhala used is still gathered, cleaned, and prepared by Cherie in Kona on the Big Island. On rare occasions lauhala may be used from other islands or imported from Tahiti.

Ordering

Do you accept custom orders? Yes, however there is usually a wait list that you must "sign up" for.  It is minimally a 8-12 week wait.  Prices start at $350 depending upon size and sophistication. Please keep in mind that weaving is a very labor intensive and time consuming process.  And there are times when we must go out to gather new lau to clean, strip, etc. 

Can I order by phone? Yes, although your privacy and security is protected during transactions on the website, if you prefer to avoid on-line transactions, please e-mail to set up a phone appointment to process your order. Business transaction hours are 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Hawaii time, Monday through Friday. 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Do I have to pay tax on my purchase? Hawaii state tax is 4.166%.

What forms of payment do you accept? Lauhalahatsshop.com powered by Etsy.com takes all major credit cards and then some (including Paypal and Applepay).  Please contact me to make special arrangements if you prefer paying by check or money order.

Privacy

We store customer's name and email for the purposes of completing the transaction and will never share it with any other organizations. Our shopping section through Etsy is secure with SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encription.


Refunds/Returns

What if I don’t like the item after it arrives? If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, you can return it within 7 days for a refund. Please contact us prior to sending your return. The item must be returned in unused/unblemished condition. Insurance is highly recommended as we will not be able to issue your refund if postal damage occurs and insurance was not purchased. After the item has been returned in its original condition, you will be refunded the cost of the item.

What if my lauhala arrives damaged? Items are shipped insured.  Should your item arrive damaged, please contact us to return it and a full refund will be arranged. 


Shipping

Do you ship internationally? Yes, if you have questions about your unique shipping needs, please contact us.

How much does shipping cost? After entering your zip code or country during the checkout process, you will be provided with your shipping cost. This figure has been calculated based on the weight and packaging requirements for the specific piece you have selected.

How is the lauhala shipped? We pack it very carefully and try to be as environmentally friendly as possible (ex. recycling packing material). Items are shipped USPS (United States Postal Service) Priority Mail or Express. 

How long does it take for my lauhala item to arrive? Items are usually shipped within 1-3 days after processing the sale.  The transit time varies depending on shipping method and distance. Within the continental United States, Priority Mail usually takes 5-14 days while Express is faster.
